Possible School Closure

Continued declining enrolment in the North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is forcing trustees to once again reluctantly look at closing and consolidating schools.

Malakwa’s September 2010 enrolment is expected to be just over 30 students. Upon the recommendation of central staff, trustees are regretfully but officially notifying the public that it will be considering the closure of Malakwa Elementary School for Sept. 2010.

“We wish with all of our hearts we didn’t have to do this,” comments board chair Bobbi Johnson. “Regrettably with the enrolment continuing to significantly decline it is important to consider where these students will best receive the education they deserve, and unfortunately school consolidation needs to be considered.” Click here for further information.
