There are two scholarships offered by Indigenous Education each year for any graduating SD83 student of Indigenous descent. The recipients will be selected by the SD83 Cultural Committee. Applications will be judged on their commitment to learning and cultural knowledge:
√ commitment to learning includes learning journey and future career and education goals.
√ cultural knowledge includes ways that the applicant helps at home or in the community, life experiences, relationships, actions that positively impact others, personal responsibilities, and family commitments that may demonstrate cultural knowledge.
Criteria:
These awards are for graduating students of Indigenous descent who are planning on attending post secondary (college, trades, university) within a year of graduating. Students apply online through the District Scholarship Award and Bursary Form. In order to apply they need a letter of reference from a First Nations’ Band, Metis Association, member of their community, Indigenous Education Worker, or Success Teacher.
Applicants may provide a written (on scholarship form) or digital presentation (ie PowerPoint, video, podcast, photo essay etc.) that includes a personal introduction, outlines educational journey and future aspirations as well as cultural experiences, which can be uploaded to the scholarship form.
Funds will be paid to the scholarship recipient upon proof of paid registration to the post-secondary institution. The funds must be claimed within 12 months.
2025 Award: One scholarship of $1,000 from the Quelmúcw Education Council, plus one scholarship of $500 (that is combined with the $500 from Doug Pearson of another $500).
