Board Signs Education Agreement with Splatsin
A new Local Education Agreement (LEA) has been signed with Splatsin First Nations.
On Friday, August 23, 2024, District staff met with the Kukpi7 (Chief) and Tkwamipla7 (Councillors) from Splatsin to review and sign the LEA with the Nation. Local Education Agreements (referred to as LEA’s) are agreements between First Nations and Boards of Education for the purchase of educational programs for First Nations students who live on reserve. These agreements also contain the terms and conditions related to improving student outcomes and having a positive relationship between the Nation and the Board.
Prior to the LEA that was signed at the Splatsin Community Centre, Splatsin had been a partner with the other three Nations on which our School District sits – Adams Lake Indian Band, Neskonlith Indian Band, and Skwlāx te Secwepemcu’lecw. However, this time, recognizing that the interests are significantly different, Splatsin requested an independent LEA that is more individually-focused and responsive to the unique needs of Splatsin students.
This LEA was two years in the making, and we are proud to announce that we have developed a robust, meaningful agreement that will guide our work with Splatsin for the next five years.
