Early Learning Fairs Connect Families
The SD83 Early Learning Education Department is dedicated to helping families with young children connect with local resources, build relationships with service providers, and have fun along the way.
One of the ways this vision is brought to life is through the Early Learning Fairs, which have been held across the District over the past few months. The latest event took place on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the District Education and Support Centre in Salmon Arm, drawing over 55 attendees.
Each year, Early Years Fairs are held in Salmon Arm, Sicamous, Enderby, North Okanagan, and the South Shuswap area, creating an open, welcoming space for families with young children to connect and learn. Representatives from local organizations, including Shuswap Children’s Association, SD83, Interior Health (dental and speech pathology), Literacy Alliance of the Shuswap, Shuswap Family Resource Centre, Shuswap Immigrant Services, Canadian Mental Health Association, the Métis Nation BC, Salmon Arm Fire Department, Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union, Say Yes to the Rest, and Okanagan Regional Library, were on hand to meet and share information with families.
In partnership with local Early Childhood Development Committees and community organizations, Early Learning Fairs provide an opportunity for families with preschoolers to explore early learning programs and other community supports.
Along with informative booths, families enjoyed free snacks, engaging play-based learning activities, and even took home books to encourage early literacy. Thanks to all who attended and to Save On for providing a soup lunch for the attendees!
These Fairs exemplify SD83’s commitment to building strong community partnerships and supporting our strategic priority of Community Partnership Development, which focuses on strengthening existing partnerships and developing new ones. The events foster relationships among families, service providers, and community organizations, creating a culture of respect, empathy, and collaboration, that reflects our value of Belonging.
Thank you to Shuswap Children’s Association for organizing such a successful event and to everyone who attended! Together, we are creating a vibrant and supportive community for all young learners and their families.
