STEM activities at Blackburn Park

Students at South Canoe School had the opportunity to spend the day at Blackburn Park on Thursday working on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills!

STEM activities are common in SD83 schools as they focus on logical thought processes and problem-solving. B.C.’s new K-12 curriculum has a strong focus on STEM and provides students the opportunity to develop their skills in a range of technologies.

STEM skills relate to subject specific skills in science, mathematics, and engineering to generic skills and dispositions. 

They include (but are not limited to):

  • Creativity 
  • Inquiry Skills 
  • Critical analysis 
  • Teamwork and collaboration.
  • Initiative 
  • Communication
  • Digital literacy
  • Problem solving
