StrongStart Educators Share and Learn

Posted on 2024-05-23 07:00:00 +0000 UTC

Sharing and learning took place as StrongStart educators from School District No. 23 (Kelowna) gathered with local StrongStart educators on May 16-17. “The two districts got together to learn from each other,” explains Vice-Principal of Early Learning Allison de Boer.

The group toured Salmon Arm area StrongStartCentres at the District Education Support Centre (DESC) and South Broadview. They were joined at South Broadview by Katie Taber (SD83 Indigenous Success Teacher at A.L. Fortune) and Amy Sampson (Indigenous Education Worker at M..V. Beattie) who shared some Indigenous games, Métis jigging, and yoga. “The focus for this session was to learn some Secwépemc language and Indigenous games that we could bring into StrongStart centres to share with our families. Katie and Amy were amazing. The group had a good time and learned a lot,” said de Boer.

On Friday morning, the group had an open sharing session where they talked about the things they love about their centres, what their families most engage with, and shared songs, routines, crafts, and resources.

“Gathering with other districts and learning from each other is a valuable experience for our StrongStart educators. We hope to do this annually,” comments de Boer.
