Supporting teachers to help students achieve

The most important factor in student learning and success is the belief and ability of teachers to support their students’ learning.

(John Hattie, 2017)

Educational researchers such as John Hattie and others have long recognized that the most powerful way to impact student learning is to support teacher learning, and teachers’ belief that they can make a difference for students.

Two years ago, with this in mind, SD83 introduced the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) of 12 ‘practicing’ educators, who teach four days a week in their own classrooms and then work one day a week with other teachers to share best practices, co-teach, increase curriculum knowledge, learn together and, in short, work together at becoming better teachers.

The goal of the team is to connect with other educators in the district to create purposeful professional learning opportunities which will support student learning and engagement.  The ILT team has strengths in many areas including Literacy, Core Competencies, Assessment, Educational Technology, Indigenous Perspectives, Differentiated Instruction and more.

The team looks forward to year three of working together to be even better at supporting SD83 students.
