Working together for students

Posted on 2021-11-08 08:00:00 +0000 UTC

Part of SD83’s Kindergarten to Grade 8 reporting process is a goal setting conference with the student, parents and teacher taking part. To facilitate this, all SD83 schools with Kindergarten to Grade 8 students will be dismissed three hours early on Thursday, Nov. 18.

Director of Instruction Carol-Ann Leidloff explains over the past number of years SD83 has been working hard to align assessment and reporting practices with the new curriculum, and make them clear and meaningful for students and parents. The goal-setting conference is a time for the student, parents/guardians and teacher to focus on the child’s areas of strength and growth, and collaboratively set learning goals for continued academic and social-emotional growth.

Parents/guardians will receive information from their child’s school about conference times, conference format, and early dismissal times (all participating schools will dismiss three hours earlier than normal and buses will run three hours earlier than their regular schedule). Please note that the majority of conferences will be on this day, with some spread over the week. Conferences are being held primarily online with some in-person. If you have questions please contact the principal at your child’s school.

“Our goal is to provide parents with a clear understanding where their children are in their learning journey and to set personalized learning goals so that the school and parents can work together to support their child’s continued growth.”

For more information about SD83’s assessment and reporting practices please contact your school principal, or our District website.
