Pancake Lunch at Salmon Arm West

Posted on 2023-12-07 08:00:00 +0000 UTC

Conversations and laughter filled the Salmon Arm West gym as all of the students and staff were treated to a pancake lunch on Tuesday, December 5.

“It was a special day as the entire school gathered as one in the gym for the pancake lunch. We are so grateful for our PAC and volunteers at Salmon Arm West. They truly value community and sense of belonging for all,” said Principal Laura Jegues.

She added that not only do the PAC and volunteers host school-wide events for them, but they also have a few volunteers who prepare and cook a delicious hot lunch, free of charge to students, each and every Tuesday. “They use local ingredients, often picked up by students as part of our life skills program, and prepare meals that can be enjoyed by all students – from vegetarian, to Halal friendly, and everything in between. We believe this promotes a true sense of belonging, in that all students are able to participate in lunch days, regardless of dietary needs, religious diversity or other ingredient restrictions they may have,” shared Principal Jegues. “It makes me so proud to see staff and volunteers prioritizing meal programs. Meal sharing, a source of comfort for many, is a weekly gift, and the smiles and laughter during this time truly define a sense of belonging.”

The pancake lunch featured not only stacks of pancakes but also sausages, fresh berries and many cans of whipped cream! The tables in the gym were festively decorated with tablecloths and centrepieces. The tablecloths were made from paper and the centrepieces contained crayons for students to use in decorating their designated portions of the tablecloth.
