Build a meal!
Who wants a hot cooked meal?
Once a week students at Eagle River Secondary will have an opportunity to learn new cooking skills, make a lunch and eat it too! In a new Feeding Futures Lunch Club piloted by staff members, Tricia Jeffery and Jodie Osmundson, students can sign up to cook the lunch of the day! Up first on the menu, on Nov. 21, was make-your-own-omelettes!
“We just started the club this month but it is attracting more and more interest,” said Osmundson She explains that she and Jeffery create a monthly meal plan, a different meal for each Tuesday of the month! Students sign up for the meals that they are interested in.
The students come to the food room at lunch time for a hot cooked meal which they make themselves! She explains students choose their ingredients that they want in their lunch. Jeffery and Osmundson are in the room supporting the students as they cook their lunch! The students eat their lunch and then clean up before heading back to their afternoon class!
“The program has kids from grades 7-12, so some of the younger ones receive more instruction than the older ones.”
