Music played a huge part in Joyce’s life. She started taking piano lessons at a young age and played for old-time dances with her family throughout her teenage years. She was the pianist/organist for countless church services, weddings, and funerals at the First United Church in Salmon Arm for 24 years. She cherished every student she met, every teacher/musician she worked with, and every note she played during her 18 years as Music Accompanist for School District No. 83. She loved her weekly gig at Primavera Ristorante Italiano where she got to play all her favorites. She enjoyed playing with the Shuswap String Orchestra in her later years.
Criteria
This award is for a student graduating from any secondary school located within SD83 who is pursuing a music program at an accredited post-secondary institution. When applying for this award students will be asked: "What does music mean to you and how is it part of your life?"
