Ronald Derek Willey was born in Regina, SK on February 11, 1930 and died in Salmon Arm, BC on October 7, 2018. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Oct. 20, 1933 – Jun. 8, 2011). After a career that started in social work in Saskatchewan and later to teaching in Edmonton, mostly history, which he loved all his life. Ron was described as an exceptional teacher with an "encyclopedic" knowledge of geopolitical history and an inspiring enthusiasm.
Criteria
There are two awards available for students graduating from a senior secondary school located within the boundaries of SD83 who intend to pursue further academic or vocational education or training at an accredited post-secondary institution.
- One bursary to a student who intends to pursue further education or training in the field of veterinary medicine or animal care and treatment and is in need of financial assistance; and
- One scholarship to a student of outstanding aptitude who intends to pursue academic studies in the fields of history or literature, and who has a strong interest in education.
Recipients of the awards from the fund will be selected by officials of the School District and, in addition to the criteria noted above, will be students who:
- are persons of good character who have demonstrated community involvement, citizenship, and leadership;
- have demonstrated an ability to work hard; and
- show initiative and a desire to succeed in their chosen fields of study.

One bursary of $2,450 for student pursuing education or training in the field of veterinary medicine or animal care and treatment
One scholarship of $2,450 to a student pursuing academic studies in the field of history or literature
