2019-2020 Calendar Set
The District Calendar for 2019-20 was approved at the Board of Education of School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) meeting at the DESC on Tuesday.
The new calendar was finalized in collaboration with NOSTA and after a survey of the public.
Superintendent Peter Jory explained that they were looking for a balance between semesters, between having professional development days on Fridays and Mondays, and clustering some days off with long weekends so that there was four days in a row in the fall.
He also noted that some pro-d days are set in conjunction with the province and region.
“In general I think it strikes the right chord,” commented Vice-Chairperson Quentin Bruns.
The survey ( comments can be viewed here ) received 184 returns (125 parents, 55 employees, two students and two others), which co-incidentally, was almost exactly the same number as last year.
With the approval of the calendar, Superintendent/CEO Peter Jory says the calendar will now go to the schools to set bell schedules and other school-based dates.
