A.L. Fortune Athlete Wins Medals at B.C. Championships
Congratulations to A.L. Fortune’s Kingston Soper who claimed two bronze medals during A.L. Fortune’s solid showing at the B.C. High School Track and Field Championships in Nanaimo on June 6-8, 2024.
Kingston claimed third in the boys’ 200-m run in the final in a time of 24.73 seconds. Kingston also earned a bronze medal in the Grade 8 boys’ high jump, achieving a height of 1.60m. The top three finishers tied at 1.60m, so the medal order was decided upon by the number of attempts it took to clear that height.
A.L. Fortune’s team, which is coached by Steven Stankoven and Aidan Clancy, had a strong showing at the provincial event. “In our second season of reviving our school’s Track and Field program, our team more than doubled the number of athletes it took to provincials in the previous season, from four to 10. Our senior boys’ 4x400m relay team ran amazing, setting a new school record of 3:47! The best part is that there were no grade 12s on the team this season, setting the stage for something special next year!”
Kingston also earned a top 10 finish in the Grade 8 100 metre race. Finishing in the top 10 was Shaden Cormier, who was ninth in the junior mens’ pole vault, clearing the bar at 2.20m.
