Apply Now for SD83 District Scholarships: Deadline April 15
Are you a student graduating this year? Are you a parent of a graduating student? This is an exciting time!
Thanks to the communities’ generosity, students can apply for scholarships and bursaries at both the school and district levels. These scholarships cater to a wide range of criteria, supporting students pursuing various career paths. Scholarships are available not only for academic achievement but also for those interested in music, trades, leadership, sports, animal welfare, and more!
Information and criteria for each of the district-wide scholarships and bursaries are accessible on the SD83 website. A district-wide online application form is available for students to apply for any of these district scholarships. The application period for these scholarships is from March 1 to April 15, 2024.
School-based scholarships and District/Authority Awards are also available. Graduates can apply for these at their high school. Each year, the Ministry of Education designates a specific amount of funds for District/Authority Awards. This year, SD83 has 54 awards for graduating students throughout our district. District/Authority Awards are not necessarily about academic excellence but rather outstanding achievement in certain areas such as:
- Indigenous Languages and Culture
- Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, or Music)
- Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (Business, Technology, Home Economics, Information and Communication Technology)
- Physical Activity (not limited to Physical Education)
- International Languages
- Community Service (Volunteering)
- Technical and Trades Training (Carpentry, Automotive, Mechanics, Chef’s Training)
To apply for these awards, students must complete an application questionnaire, create a cover letter, resume, and two reference letters, and participate in a ten-minute presentation to a panel at their school about their interests and achievements. After the school makes recommendations, the Ministry confirms that selected students meet basic criteria. Confirmed recipients receive a $1,250 scholarship voucher from the Ministry.
