Are you a student graduating this year? Are you a parent of a soon-to-be graduate? This is an exciting milestone!
Thanks to the communities’ generosity, students have access to a variety of scholarships and bursaries at both the school and district levels. These scholarships recognize a wide range of achievements, not just academic excellence, but also music, trades, leadership, sports, and more!
Details and eligibility criteria for district-wide scholarships and bursaries are available on the SD83 website. An online application form allows students to apply for multiple district scholarships in one place. The application period runs from March 1 to April 8, 2025.
School-based scholarships and District/Authority Awards are available through individual high schools. Each year, the Ministry of Education provides funding designates a specific amount of funds for District/Authority Awards. This year, SD83 has 48 awards for graduating students. District/Authority Awards recognize outstanding achievement in specific areas, including:
- Indigenous Languages and Culture
- Fine Arts (Visual Arts, Dance, Drama, or Music)
- Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (Business, Technology, Home Economics, Information and Communication Technology)
- Physical Activity (not limited to Physical Education)
- International Languages
- Community Service (Volunteering)
- Technical and Trades Training (Carpentry, Automotive, Mechanics, Chef’s Training)
To apply, students must submit an application questionnaire, cover letter, resume, and two reference letters, and deliver in a ten-minute presentation to a panel at their school showcasing their interests and achievements. After school recommendations are made, the Ministry confirms eligibility. Recipients will receive a $1,250 scholarship voucher from the Ministry.
