B.C. High School Swimming Championships
Local swimmers brought home some medals in the B.C. High School Swimming Championships in Richmond on November 15-16, 2024.
Ethan Henry of Shuswap Middle School, Brea Duncan of Pleasant Valley Secondary School, and Marrin Harwood and Clara Tracy of J.L. Jackson represented SD83 at the High School Swimming Championships in Richmond last weekend. Congratulations to all SD3 competitors!
Unlike many sports divided by age group, high school swimmers compete in the Grade 8-12 category. Swimmers who compete year-round participate in the open category, typically racing 100 metres, while summer club or unaffiliated swimmers compete in the B category, where the distance is typically 50 metres. The third category is for para swimmers, also at 50 metres.
Ethan, competing in boys’ para event, placed second in the 100 metre Individual Medley (IM), 100 metre freestyle and 50 metre breaststroke. He also placed third in 50 metre freestyle.
Brea, competing in the girls para event, placed first in 50 metre backstroke, second in 50 metre breaststroke and third in 50 metre freestyle.
Marrin competed in the 50 and 100 metre freestyle, the 100 metre fly, and the 200 metre IM. Clara competed in the 100 metre backstroke and the 100 metre freestyle. They both competed in the girls open event.
Brea Duncan will be competing in the Ken Demchuck International Swim Meet on November 29 to December 1, 2024, in Toronto. Good luck Brea!
The achievements of SD83 swimmers at the B.C. High School Swimming Championships reflect the District’s Value of Perseverance, as they showcased resilience and self-empowerment in overcoming the challenges of competing at this level.
