Congrats to Curlers!
Curl BC U18 Curling Champions!
Congratulations to our students who took part in the BC U18 Curling Championships in Victoria, BC, from December 27-31. In particular, two students from Salmon Arm Secondary, who were part of the winning team, will be representing BC in the Canadian championships!
Kaiden Beck (skip) and Nolan Beck (second) of Salmon Arm Secondary teamed with Ethan Chiu (third) of Port Moody and Harrison Hyrnew (lead) of New Westminster to win the provincial championships and earn the right to represent BC at the upcoming Canadian U18 championships in Ottawa from February 4-10. The team is coached by Dale Hofer of Vernon.
In the U18 Boys’ Final, Team Beck seized an early advantage with a five point first end. Despite a comeback effort by Team Farmer of Dawson Creek, scoring consecutively from the fourth to sixth end, Team Beck held strong. Kaiden Beck’s final well-executed shot in the seventh end secured a 12-7 win, clinching the championship with an unbeaten 6,0 record in the event.
The U18 championships also had local entry, Team Tomlinson, with skip Austin Tomlinson (SAS), third Eli Rands (Jackson), second Ben Froese (Enderby), lead Noah Longland (Jackson), with coaches Ty and Laura Tomlinson. “As a brand new team, we went into provincials with the goal of making it to game four in a triple knock-out playdown. We exceeded our expectations and made it to game five. The boys have worked really hard all season and did a great job to stay positive throughout the week. We are looking forward to next year, where we hope to be playing for the championship,” comments coach Laura Tomlinson.
The Beck brothers, along with two other SAS curlers, also have their sights set for doing well in the high school curling competitions, which wind up with the provincials being hosted by Kelowna Secondary School at the Kelowna Curling Club from February 28 to March 2.
