Dual Credit information night

Posted on 2023-10-24 07:00:00 +0000 UTC

Want to get a jump start on a career while you are still in high school? SD83 Careers will host Dual Credit information sessions for parents and students at two locations in early November.

Dual credit makes it possible for grades 10-12 students to take post-secondary courses and receive credit towards both high school graduation and post-secondary credentials – tuition free!

Parents and students can choose to attend the event either on Tuesday, November 7th at Salmon Arm Secondary or Wednesday, November 8th at Pleasant Valley Secondary in Armstrong. Both events run from 5:30-7 p.m.

Dual credits are a way for Grade 10-12 students to not only gain elective credits towards high school graduation but they can also earn credits leading towards partial or full completion of certain post-secondary courses and programs. As well, SD83 will pay the tuition for those courses saving parents and students money!

Okanagan College, Thompson Rivers University, the Justice Institute of BC, Interior Health and Skilled Trades BC will be in attendance with other post-secondary partners still booking space for the events. Trade dual credit programs include but are not limited to the following: welding, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, heavy duty mechanics, auto collision repair, professional cook training, hairstyling, millwright, HVAC, auto service technician and joinery. When it comes to academic dual credits, options include but are not limited to the following: certified education assistants, office administration, gateway to technology, information technology user support, early childhood education, health care assistants, medical lab assistant, emergency medical responder, nursing unit assistant, medical office assistant and gateway to health.

If you have questions about the event or about dual credits in general, please contact SD83 Career Education Coordinator George Richard via text or phone at 778-824-1188 or email grichard@sd83.bc.ca.
