Earns silver at Provincials!
Local students ran well and brought home one silver medal, several ribbons and some good team results over a wet and muddy course at Jericho Beach in Vancouver for the B.C. High School Cross Country Running Championships on November 6.
Salmon Arm Secondary Senior coach Dave Van Bergeyk explains that it was a large event with between 230 and 265 runners in each category, and between 25 to 30 teams!
Ronan Wiens, a Grade 8 student at Shuswap Middle School, captured the silver medal in the open para (Grade 8-12) race. SAS Sullivan teams claimed fifth in senior boys, and ninth in senior girls, while the SAS Jackson team placed seventh in junior boys. Individually, runners up to 25th place received a ribbon. Local students winning ribbons included Sam Calkins (18th), and Frankie Ayotte (21st) in senior boys.
Four local teams (the senior girls and boys from Sullivan and the junior girls and boys from Jackson), and two Grade 8 students from Shuswap Middle qualified for the provincials.
