Finalist in Music Class Challenge

SD83 has one finalist in the Canadian Music Class Challenge!

Hillcrest Elementary’s performance of Safe and Sound has earned them a spot in the top 10 finalists in the Elementary Vocal (grades 4-6) category. Winners in each of the divisions will be announced Tuesday, December 14. First place in Hillcrest’s division nets the winner $3,000 in new musical instruments! The Canadian Music Class Challenge is CBC Music’s salute to music education in this country. In association with MusiCounts, every year CBC invites music instructors to teach their students a Canadian song from a pre-approved list.

Music Class Challenge spokesperson comments this year, teachers and students from every province and territory signed up to safely learn and perform their best version of a Canadian song on every instrument imaginable — and in every social distancing scenario imaginable. It was noted that it was very challenging to choose the top finalists in each category this year.
