Former student wins pianist competition
Congratulations to Jaeden Izik-Dzurko, former SD83 student and son of SD83 teachers Patricia and David Izik-Dzurko, who won the Hilton Head International Piano Competition in South Carolina held March 7-14 and just this week has advanced to the final round of the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona, Spain!
On the heels of success at Hilton Head, Jaeden is now one of three pianists who, this week, have advanced to the final round in Barcelona. A total of 209 competitors from 33 countries submitted video applications to the competition. From this, 78 competitors from 28 countries competed live in Barcelona.
The final round of the competition will be on Wednesday, April 6 at 8 p.m. in Barcelona (11 a.m. locally). All three finalists will perform a complete concerto with a live orchestra. The performance will be livestreamed here: https://www.youtube.com/c/mariacanalsbarcelona

Talent obviously abounds in the Izik-Dzurko family as Jaeden will be cheered on by his sister Aria, another former SD83 student, who is currently spending the year dancing in Barcelona as a trainee with the Ballet de Barcelona!
Jaeden graduated from Salmon Arm Secondary in 2017 and attended Juilliard School. He is currently completing the first year of his Master’s program at the University of B.C. and is working closely with piano instructor Dr. Corey Hamm.
Jaeden’s first place at Hilton Head included $15,000 as well as a recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall on Oct. 14, 2022, a CD recording on the Steinway & Sons label and a return engagement with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra.
