Holiday cheer!

Posted on 2023-12-21 08:00:00 +0000 UTC

Did you spot the “Elves” in North Canoe recently?

Students from North Canoe were spreading kindness and holiday cheer in their community this week. The whole school went carolling around the community on Dec. 18 and then two classes went “Elfing” on Dec. 19. The “Elfs” left a card and a little bag of chocolates on the doorstep or mailbox of local residents. One of the teachers involved, Alexa Klassen, reported that the locals loved it. “We even saw some residence with tears in their eyes. It was so well received that we plan on making it an annual tradition.”

Principal David Wellingham explains in alignment with Building a Culture of Health and Wellness, North Canoe has adopted the virtues of Safety, Peace, Awesome Attitude, Respect, and Kindness.  “Carolling and spreading cheer are ways staff and students can show their SPARK and help build our community,” he adds.

The idea for community carolling started with teacher Karen Quinton who has taken her students out carolling for many years now. This year she asked if the whole school wanted to take part.
