The new school year is about to begin!
In SD83 the first day of school is Wednesday, September 4. This will be a half day session with students being dismissed three hours earlier than usual. School bus students should have received an email with their stop location and times on it. If you have not received this, or are brand new to the district and think you are on a school bus route, please call transportation at (250) 832-9415.
Also, several letters containing important information for parents and caregivers about the new school year have been sent home via email.
The first is about a new Ministerial Order from the province which restricts the use of personal digital devices across all districts, including School District No. 83. To align with this order, our Board of Education has updated Board Policy 310 Student Code of Conduct (section 2. j), and we have introduced a new administrative procedure, AP 310 Student Use of Personal Digital Devices. These changes will help ensure a smooth transition and clarify how the new rules will be applied in our schools.
The second is about SD83’s fair notice. As a school district, we have a district procedure for responding to all situations in which students may be posing a threat to themselves or others. School District No. 83 requires principals to activate a threat assessment protocol in all cases where students are making significant high-level threats to harm themselves or others. The procedure is called a Threat Risk Assessment.
