Memorial fund benefits kids
Thanks to a generous grant through the Lisa Rolland Children’s Literacy Fund, some wonderful books have been purchased to help build up the home libraries of students receiving early literacy intervention (LIT) support.
The Elephant & Piggie books will be distributed to LIT students in special ways at each of their schools (winter break gift, end of program celebration, end of year celebration, etc.).
Lisa Rolland was a school trustee in our district who sadly passed away from cancer in 2012. Her wish was to establish a fund to support children’s literacy and the building of children’s home libraries.
Because of Lisa’s deep desire to help all children learn to read, a children’s literacy fund established by fellow trustee Bobbi Johnson and her husband Joe in 2011 with the Shuswap Community Foundation, was renamed in in her honour. Each year it has been providing funding to help build the literacy skills of local children. SD83 is very grateful for this legacy project.
