New playground at Len Wood
There was a small but enthusiastic crowd for the official opening of the new playground at Len Wood Elementary School.
On September 30th, a celebration was held at the playground to honour all the volunteers and community sponsors that joined together to make the playground a reality.
PAC president Diane Mintz and former PAC president Michelle Johnson thanked those who made the project possible, with special thanks to Jae McDermott (who did the playground design and worked with suppliers), and Jason Tabor (who did all the groundwork). They also thanked the local businesses that contributed to not only this project, but are constant supporters of the school and community.
They added that the PAC has purchased a bench and that thank you message to all the volunteers and community sponsors will be included on its plaque.
In the spring, three tether balls that were part of the purchase will be installed in the playground.
At the ceremony it was announced that Len Wood is receiving a $15,000 Fortis Community grant, which was applied for on the school’s behalf by the Township of Spallumcheen. These funds will be utilized to build an outdoor classroom complete with picnic tables and also to purchase more benches.
