Public Speaking Zone Finals
Topics from Marvel movies to the solar system, animal abuse to the importance of human connection were featured at the annual SD83 Public Speaking Zone Finals at Len Wood Middle School (LWMS) on June 9.
Students from grades 5-8 competed in front of classes of their peers, proud parents and family, and of course the judges! This was the first zone final in three years but there was no sign of rusty skills as judges Trustee Quentin Bruns, District Principal Jen Findlay, and LWMS Principal Denise Moore had their work cut out for them determining winners in each of the four grade levels. Afterwards, the judges commented that it was so wonderful to see all the students demonstrate their fantastic public speaking skills and that they admired the students’ confidence, creativity, and humour.
Winners this year:
- Grade 5 – Caleb Scott, Seven Types of Milk
- Grade 6 – Charlotte McConnell, Writers and Authors
- Grade 7 – Taya Hanna, Animal Abuse
- Grade 8 – El Poissant, Human Connections
Many thanks to our judges and the district for providing plaques and certificates to winners and participants! We are already looking forward to next year’s enthralling installment!
