Red Dress Reflection Ceremony & Walk
A Red Dress Reflection Ceremony & Remembrance Walk will take place at J.L. Jackson Secondary School in Salmon Arm on May 6, 2025, beginning at 11 a.m.
Red Dress Day, known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls and Two-Spirit People, is observed annually on May 5th. It serves as a day to remember, honour, and advocate for justice for those who have been lost and their families.
The ceremony will be held at Jackson Field and will feature a guest speaker and traditional drumming. Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to join a reflection and remembrance walk around McGuire Lake, where red dresses and posters will be displayed in the trees to symbolize the lives lost.
The red dresses and posters will be on display at McGuire Lake Park from about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. so that people can choose their own time to reflect and remember MMIWG.
An art exhibit and awareness booth will be available until 3 p.m.
