Runners headed to provincials!

Salmon Arm Secondary’s AAA senior girls’ team claimed top spot and a berth to the provincials in the 2023 High School Cross Country Running Valley Championships which were held at Larch Hills on Oct. 24. Also qualifying were Jackson’s junior boys team, and several local individual runners!

Headed to the provincials, which are slated for Nov. 4 at South Surrey, is the SAS team of Madeline Wilkie, Daniela Kosarova, Emma Muddiman, Miah Rands, Eden Heckrodt, Hazel Brooks, and Amelie Ewanyshyn. Also, contributing to the SAS effort, but not moving on to provincials were Peyton Major, Jocelyn Wohlford, Gabrielle Giesbrecht and Sam Peterson. Claiming the second berth was the South Kamloops team.

In the junior boys’ division the top berth was won by Seaton of Vernon, with Jackson laying claim to the second berth. On the Jackson team is Kian Smith, Walter Bullen, Peter Liebich, Kynan Dicker, Peter Ely, Samuel Muddiman, and Carlos Soto Ontanon. The third berth went to KLO Middle School.

Local schools didn’t claim any of the berths in senior boys or junior girls. However, some individuals did qualify for provincials including Jonathan Breugem of Salmon Arm Secondary, Lily Ewanyshyn, Etoile Brown and Vienne Bredick, all of Jackson.

The senior runners are coached by Dave Van Bergyk, assisted by Danny Hughes, while the Jackson team is coached by Dave Hollatz.
