Salmon Arm West featured in Ministry update

Posted on 2020-06-10 07:00:00 +0000 UTC

The Ministries of Education and Health regularly share updates, which SD83 is sharing with our parents and communities. Tuesday’s also included a good news in education story about Salmon Arm West and custodian Connie Schikowski.

On June 9th, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 9 new cases (one new epi-linked case was announced) for a total of 2,669 cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Of this,  2,319 people who tested positive have recovered. The statement is posted on the Ministry of Health newsroom at https://news.gov.bc.ca/ministries/health

FYI – Since last week, Epi-linked cases are being included in the Island Health and Vancouver Coastal Health region case reporting. ‘Epi-linked’ means that public health investigations have shown that cases meet the case definition for COVID-19 but may not have been tested for a number of reasons. New tested and epi-linked cases are included as one number.

Good News in Education Story!

School District #83 – North Okanagan- Shuswap

The Queen of Cleaning! After the strong message of stay at home to stay safe, there was some anxiety in many places around the school district with the “re-start” of in-class learning. At Salmon Arm West Elementary School this anxiety level was lowered by their custodian Connie, who cleaned up and cleared up much of it!

Connie has really lowered the anxiety level of staff, especially these first few days back at school, because she keeps everything so clean and organized.  When staff and students returned to school it looked almost brand new! During the seven weeks the school was shut down Connie cleaned everything, the blinds, window sills, under sinks, floors, you name it – all spotless and welcoming.”

Connie’s hard work was recently celebrated with a crown and Queen of Clean sash and a beautiful basket of flowers. It really does take a village! https://sd83.bc.ca/2020/06/04/cleaning-up-anxiety/
