Salmon Arm working group meets

Posted on 2021-11-10 08:00:00 +0000 UTC

Members of the Salmon Arm Zone Long Range Facilities Plan (LRFP) Reconfiguration Working Group met for the first time on Monday, November 1 at the District Education Support Centre (DESC).

Discussion included a review of the Long Range Facilities Plan (LRFP) process and the “E-5” decision for the Salmon Arm area, approved by the Board of Education on June 15, 2021. Assistant Superintendent Ryan Brennan also provided a review of current enrolment data and projections for the Salmon Arm Zone. It was noted that the current data suggests that a new school in Sorrento could ease pressures on Salmon Arm. For transparency, the data related to  the “E-4” option was also reviewed. New data will be available in the spring.

Further discussion included a review of population forecasts for the City of Salmon Arm, and enrolment projections for face-to-face learning and for the Education Outreach Program. Opportunities to tour the Jackson, Sullivan, and Shuswap Middle School campuses were also discussed.

The timeline for implementation may be pushed back to allow for further review of the current data. The new information regarding enrolment projections will be shared with parents and partner groups in the meantime. The working group plans to meet again in three weeks. All future meetings will be held on Mondays at the DESC beginning at 4 p.m.
