School-Wide Write Protocol & Rubrics

During the September 21, 2026 Pro-D Day, teachers at Carlin Elementary School (CAR) participated in professional learning focused on the District’s new School-Wide Write Protocol and accompanying writing rubrics. Organized by the CAR School Pro-D Committee, the session provided educators with an opportunity to explore the protocol, review assessment tools, and engage in professional dialogue about supporting student growth as writers.

Participants demonstrated a high level of engagement and enthusiasm throughout the learning session. Feedback indicated that teachers appreciated the use of the Six Traits writing framework, the pre-learning information poster, and the clear guidance provided for entering assessment data into EDPlan Insight. Teachers also valued the collaborative assessment process outlined in the protocol, which supports consistency in scoring and helps develop a shared understanding of writing expectations across grade levels.

The School-Wide Write Protocol is designed to provide educators with meaningful information about student writing development over time. By using common writing rubrics and engaging in collaborative assessment, teachers can identify strengths, areas for growth, and instructional priorities at the classroom, school, and district levels. The protocol also supports the use of assessment data to inform whole-class instruction, targeted interventions, and student goal setting.
