Seeking input on calendar

START SURVEY NOW

The Board of Education School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) is seeking input on a proposed school district calendar for September 2020.

The number of non-instructional days in a school year are determined provincially through negotiation between the Ministry of Education and the British Columbia Teachers’ Union. The placement of these days is determined at the local level through a calendar consultation process with School District stakeholders.

At the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday at Pleasant Valley Secondary School in Armstrong, trustees approved a draft calendar for the upcoming school year which is now being circulated for public input before being finalized.

Until March 17th, stakeholders can provide input via email (please send to egorman@sd83.bc.ca) or via this survey. Feedback will be gathered, any changes necessary will be made, and then it will go back to the Board of Trustees for final approval.

The draft shows the school year beginning on Tuesday, September 8 with the final day of school for students on Thursday, June 25. Because of these bookends, this calendar year will be a little shorter than typical, so the school day will be slightly extended (approximately six minutes per day).

Also in the draft, Winter Break is set for December 21 to January 1. Spring Break is planned for March 15-26.
