Setting up Green Teams!

Posted on 2022-04-05 07:00:00 +0000 UTC

Are you interested in being on a school’s Green Team?

SD83’s Environmental Educators Provincial Specialist Association has a goal to have a minimum of 15 school “Green Teams” established by Earth Day on April 22 in SD83 schools!

The committee has put together information to help the teams get started and they are asking anyone from the school community (including students, staff, parents, and alumni) who is interested in this important cause to come together and form a school-based Green Team.

The Green Team will take on local and meaningful environmental projects which will not only help the environment but will also help to negate the feeling of helplessness that many people are experiencing concerning the effects of climate change, support a process of action in SD83 in response to the district’s newly adopted climate action policy, and provide robust opportunities to implement B.C.’s inquiry-based, competency-based curriculum.

Any member of the school community can initiate, lead or join a green team. If you are an interested parent or guardian, please start by contacting your child’s principal to see if there is a team or an organizer that has already been selected for your school. If not, and you are interested in taking the lead, discuss this as a possibility with your child’s principal and contact Emily Styles (estyles@sd83.bc.ca) for resources.
