Students and Staff Treated to Turkey Dinner
Anyone want to peel 150 pounds of potatoes and cook 10 very large turkeys?
A popular event at A.L. Fortune Secondary (ALF) occurred on Thursday, November 30, 2023, as both students and staff enjoyed a buffet-style turkey dinner complete with all the fixings. The commons area of the school was transformed into a dining space for the occasion, serving 370 students and 50 staff members!
The tradition of hosting a turkey dinner at ALF was initiated six years ago by Myrna Dreier and Katherine Dimmick, both certified education assistants (CEAs) at the school. Myrna shared, “I have been doing the turkey dinner for at least six years. Katherine and I did the lunch program and we thought it would be cool to feed everyone. Students love it and look forward to it.”
Myrna shared that since Katherine’s passing she has taken on the responsibility of cooking while all CEAs contribute to the serving effort. Myrna expressed gratitude for the significant involvement of many students and staff members who help to make the event a success.
As a staff tradition, individuals contribute dessert goodies while the Foods classes are involved in peeling potatoes, cutting onions, and cubing bread. Carol Berube, the Foods teacher at ALF, plays a key role in organizing these activities.
The staff at ALF extend their gratitude to both public and private donors for their generous support.
