Vaping awareness
Public health nurses, doctors, substance use clinicians, and School District No. 83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) administrators joined together to help raise awareness about the health concerns of vaping to parents, students and community members.
The presentations took place in Sicamous, Armstrong, Enderby and Salmon Arm. Each session was followed by a question and answer period, where those attending could have their questions around vaping answered by the panel of health professionals and school district administrators. Although there was only a small turnout at each session the discussion was rich.
DPAC Chair Corryn Grayston commented that the North Okanagan Shuswap DPAC was extremely pleased to collaborate with SD83 and Interior Health as part of the Vaping Awareness campaign.
She added last November 2019, DPAC conducted a parent/guardian survey asking for feedback on topics that should be a priority for DPAC. “Vaping came in as one of the strongest issues for concern and challenge to students and their parents/guardians.”
