Welcome Back to the 2022-23 School Year

Posted on 2022-09-06 07:00:00 +0000 UTC

Dear Parent(s), Guardian(s), and Caregiver(s),

To the students and families of SD83: I want to take this opportunity to welcome you back to the 2022-23 school year. I trust that you have enjoyed a summer filled with rest, relaxation, and opportunities to create special memories with family and friends. As your child(ren) return to school on Wednesday, I want you to know there is an excitement across the district for the year to begin.

We look forward to welcoming the new Kindergarten class joining us, those students new to the district as well as the thousands of students who are returning to us. I’m grateful that we can begin this year with renewed optimism and anticipation of the great days ahead. School start-up is by far the most exciting time of the school year. As students walk through the doors of their neighbourhood schools, it will mark the beginning of building a “renewed community of learners.”

School District No. 83 has an amazing group of employees who are dedicated to creating safe, welcoming environments for students to thrive in. I hold each of them in high esteem for the commitment and passion they bring to their work. I’m certainly confident that your child(ren) will be spending their days with caring, capable staff.

This year will be a busy one. The fall will provide the public with an opportunity to select trustees to represent them on the Board of Education. Our leadership team will be spending time in communities throughout the fall and winter, working with stakeholders to establish what our foundational beliefs, values, and vision are for a new five-year strategic plan. With new Ministry funding, there will be extensive work done in early years education, childcare, and assisting vulnerable families and their children.

We will continue to forge our commitment toward Truth and Reconciliation, sort out the details for assessment and reporting, focus on the well being of our students and staff, and ensure that students within our district experience equitable opportunities. Most importantly, the 2022-23 school year will focus on the importance of building meaningful, authentic relationships in every aspect of our work.

As I conclude this “welcome back” letter, I cannot help but be optimistic about the year ahead. It holds a host of amazing possibilities that I invite you as parent(s)/guardian(s) and caregiver(s) to join us in. Collaboration, consultation, and teamwork will be the foundational values we are committing to, as we put “students first.” Wishing all of you an amazing school year in SD83!

Sincerely,
Donna
