Wheelchair Basketball

The students beat the teachers in a fun and slightly humbling game of wheelchair basketball on Thursday at Jackson!

With three time Paralympic gold medalist Marni Abbott-Peter as a coach/referee and two people from the BC Wheelchair Basketball Association helping out, the players quickly started picking up how to maneuver their wheelchairs and adjust their passes and shots.

By the time the noon hour game had ended, the students had outscored the teachers 12-10.

The game was made possible by Abbott-Peter, the Let’s Play director at BC Wheelchair Basketball Society.  Her colleagues also brought up a set of adult-sized sport wheelchairs for the teachers and students to use.

Meanwhile, wheelchair activities continue in the elementary schools using the district’s own set of elementary student wheelchairs. Seen here are two South Canoe students enjoying the new challenge!
