Wildfires expand
The scope of the wildfires expanded in our school district and even more of our students, staff and families are now affected.
“All of us at SD83 are holding our students, their families and loved ones close in our hearts. Your safety is of the utmost importance! We stand with you in spirit, hoping for a positive outcome during this challenging time,” says Superintendent of Schools Donna Kriger. She notes that at least one positive has been although structures have been lost so far people appear to be safe.
“We want to add our thanks to the work of the firefighters and all the volunteers who are helping with this devastating wildfire.”
She also thanked a group of SD83 school bus drivers who went to Blind Bay Friday night with buses to transport people who evacuated by boat.
There are many wondering if North Shuswap school was impacted by the fire. Unconfirmed reports suggest it is intact however we are working with our provincial partners for official confirmation of its status and we will assess when it’s safe to do so,” she adds.
