The Sholinder Family Endowment has been established to help students who are furthering their education. The bursary will alternate with one year the award going to a student who intends on pursuing post-secondary education or training in a vocation or skilled trade, and the other year going to a student who has demonstrated excellence in sports and is going on to post-secondary education or training.
Criteria
2026 Awards
A student pursuing post-secondary education or training in the field of Arts and Culture. Eligible recipients may include:
- Graduating students from Salmon Arm Senior Secondary School or the Storefront School.
- Mature students returning to formal education;
- Students enrolled in vocational or skilled trades programs.
- As per Sholinder family "Priority on students who have struggled. A student who would not be someone that would "expect" an award".
One award of $2,400
The bursary will be awarded to a student who intends to pursue post-secondary education or training in a vocation or a skilled trade, or a student who intends to pursue post-secondary education or training who has demonstrated excellence in sports.
One award of $1,200
A student who intends to pursue post-secondary education or training and who has demonstrated excellence in sports. For greater certainty, priority will be given to a student who has demonstrated proficiency in baseball or golf, and the School District will consider third-party recommendations from Salmon Arm Minor Baseball Association, the Salmon Arm Golf Club, or any successors or like-minded organizations.
One award of $1,200
Going forward the two Sholinder Awards, above, will alternate criteria (2027 - sports).
